congradulations on your liberation from the BORG
WE WERE BORG!
i have toyed around with the idea of finding fellow df'd ones for about a year now.
i recently got married, and of course it has made me look at how it feels like i gave up one life for another.
the only member of my family who is a jw is my mother- and it kills me that we pretty much no longer have a relationship.

WE WERE BORG!
who here has had or still has problems trying to equate or harmonize the old testament with the new testament?
i do and i always have had a very hard time accepting some of the things in the old testament, etc.
incest, murder, killing of innocent people, murdering children over petty issues, men having 100's of wives, all the idols that were present in the old testament temples(cherubs and golden bowls, excetera excetera), the seemingly merciless nature of god toword many while yet forgiving others for grave sins such as adultery, or the delivering of punishment to innocent people in order to discipline the sinner(example-david's sensus of the israelite nation in which they were destroyed not him).
its not just ot vs nt, there is an evolving going on even before you get to the NT
in the beginning there is nothing offered to anyone but blessing and cursings in this life and death for violators of serious laws... there is no talk any where of any after life. Often sited in Job about his pondering whether god might remember him after he died is just that, pondering, not statement of faith no doctrine of promises, as none were given in that direction.
ECC 9:6 often sited by JWs as proof of no soul surviving death basically sums up the original jewish view of things... there was no immortal soul thought about in the beginning....
prior to the NT and after the babylonian exile came the new view, not from God but from pagans.... it infected the jewish worldview and caused them to ponder what would happen to them after death.... they no longer thought in terms of worm food but wanted something more.... like the pagan cousins.
i think most jws have never really experienced "real" joy or happiness in the jw environment.
i don't think programmed mind controlled people can relate to "normal" things that make the average person happy.
what do you think?
actually I was happy a lot of the time as a JW, they gave me a sense of belonging and a family of somewhat like minded individuals who were unlike the people I grew up with who did not share my view and out look.... there were plenty of reasons for not feeling happy all the time, but I felt happier as a JW then before..... and now I feel even happier as a former JW because I now understand many things about myself I had no clue about which caused me a great deal of internal termoil which JWs did not fix, but pretended to understand and offer a cure after this world is over.... which did a lot to give me hope, but really did only a little to make me feel better.
my brother, who has been dfed for many, many years is going to a baptist church.
he just started attending recently and had a discussion with the baptist minister about the trinity.
my brother still believes many doctrines of the jw's.
take the bible like any other story book, set out who are the main characters and what are their roles etc...
you will find from beginning to end there are always two main characters and both of them are explained gradually as we go
the first being - ELoHYiM - [translated God in the plural of majesty with singular verbs] who makes his appearance in genesis 1:1 and is later identified as YHVH ELoHYiM.
The next one is not mentioned till Genesis 3 where we are told he would be THE SEED who would bruise the serpent in the head.
We are given many attributes of YHVH and we are given that he is not alone but has hundreds of thousands of godlike beings with him in his heavenly realm and that he is the El ELoHYim or the God of gods.
The Seed is also given attributes, we are told he is Shiloh, the one to whom it belongs, who will one day be king of all and he will be a descendent of David, a human, but he will have complete divine backing and his kingdom will be eternal
The Jews never saw any thing in their readings or understandings to give them the impression that YHVH himself would be coming as this human and every indication to see them as two seperate beings and the christians scriptures dont really alter this understanding in any direct or open way.
That the messiah would turn out to be from the divine family, the Elohim [plural] or the Beni-elohim, the sons of God [the members of the guild of god like beings is also valid] would likely cause some confusion.... since his nature was godlike in this sense.... he was of the divine beings who emptied himself and took on the form of a human slave... but was exhaulted back to his former divine glory and given a name above all the other names of his fellow divine beings, etc.
even in the Reveltations, the distinction between these two main characters is maintained and there is no confusion between the ONE who sits on the throne as LORD GOD ALMIGHTY and the other who approaches as the lamb OF God, the lion of Judah
and even in the culimnation when all is said and done, there are these two who are now ruling as one but yet still seperate in the new jerusalem as the light of all the universe, God and his Lamb. both were in the beginning of the story and both are found at the end of the story....and both remained seperate characters the whole time.

my youngest brother, never a JW, raised catholic, but definitely an anti-trinitarian.... came up with the notion
that THE WORD of John 1:1 refers to the promises of GOD which were made flesh in Jesus.

no trinity no non-trinity (^_^)
my oldest son is left handed.
everytime he does anything different from the rest of us.....my husband relates this to being left handed.. he is very artistic, detailed, and extremely particular about how he wants things in his little world to be.. this may be because he's 5 - who knows.. are there any traits of left handed people that you lefties may want to share so i can be prepared in the future?.
thanks in advance,.
I just learned to write by watching the others, and my left hand always had this black/silver lead coating from the pencil
as I would tend to drag my hand through what I had written.....
it occurred to me that jews were left handed since they seem to write from right to left which would be infinitely easier for lefties
but when I searched for confirmation what I discovered was that originally people wrote from right to left then down and back left to right switching the direction of the letters for each line so that some were backwards....and some cultures just settled on one way vs the other arbitrarily....and the jews had just as few lefties as everyone else which can be gleaned from such statements as the oddity of Ehud being left handed, so much so that no one suspected him of hiding his sword on his right leg.... and the mention of the oddity of the left handed benjaminite warriors.

lefties do tend to suffer from dyslexia more than righties.... I used to make a lot of backwards numbers too
I started out doing just about everything lefty.... but there was only 2 left handed scissors and they were always occupied in kindergarden, so I learned to do the right way... I found it hard to find left handed baseball mits so I began throwing right handed and batting right handed etc
after a while I was doing all sports right handed and found I had no aim left handed at all...so some things are just a matter of programming and practice.
with typing I dont notice any difference between hands, they say lefties have an advantage in typing as the keyboard was purposefully scrambled early on so that righties could not mash up the keys in the old style non electric typewriters.
they put a lot of important keys on the left side.
boy, this might be that can of worms i meant to keep closed!.
i was thinking about something though and wondered what your thoughts might be.
if you believe in angels, the spirit realm, spirit guides or spirits of loved ones that have crossed.
ROD P, for the most part I agree with you completely, however there are these spooky events which have crept into my life and the life of just about everyone I have ever met which prevents me from seeing things in a completely materialistic way.... there are bizzarre events which are rare and hardly ever repeated which are woven into the fabric of our existances and these may never be fully explained and after many meditative contemplative sessions I have come to the conclusion that somethings will never be explained and that is just the way it is and I am ok with it now. There was a time when I believed an answer could be found for any question and that is how people like JWs swayed me... and then there was a time when I thought I had it all figured out and spooky $#!+ happened which made me reailze there are still many mysteries

lefty here.... there is a great big book called THE LEFTHANDER SYNDROME which explores the subject in great details...
it seems that humans are apparently the only species where right handedness predominates, most other animals seem to have
about half and half while human lefties below the age of 20 are about 20% and above the age of 20 only about 10%.
the book says that no one could pin down left handedness to genetics, even though it can run in families, the major contributing factor
does not seem to be found in the DNA itself.
one theory is that because the left side of the brain grows very rapdily it can be damaged very easily and this would cause a shifting of functioning to the opposite side which is generally not the primary candidate.... and while we lefties do not want to be thought of as brain damaged, the facts do show a larger than average number of lefties compared to rights are retarded and criminal.... by percentages not by sheer numbers.
the upside is that some of the brain damage may effect the suppressor circuits which keeps right handed people from thinking too many insane thoughts....which can lead to a disproportionate number of left handed artists and muscians etc.... people who are in their right mind so to speak (^_^)
culturally we are sons of the devil by definition (^_^) and have all sorts of nice designations like SINISTER and GOUCHE...etc
